Wax Digital lifts the cloud for Dixons Stores Group
Recession and a reluctance to spend large capital sums on IT is driving many companies to turn to 'the cloud' as a method of IT delivery - that's the view of on-demand eProcurement software vendor Wax Digital.
"Some business have in the past been sceptical about the Software as a Service (SaaS) model of IT delivery - worries over security and remote connections to critical systems have meant that traditional behind-the-firewall solutions remained preferable to some IT and procurement directors," said Daniel Ball, director, Wax Digital.
"There has been a definite sea change on the past couple of years however, and that shift has become even more marked since we entered more troubled economic waters. Organisations have to reduce costs across the business - including IT - and the adoption of on-demand solutions has become increasingly attractive."
High street retailer DSG International plc has deployed Wax Digital's on-demand procurement technology to give employees access to a core of approved suppliers in a drive to bring robust spend controls, improve purchasing compliance and give full visibility of spend across its operations for those who need it.

DSGi recognise that especially in difficult economic conditions, the predictable pricing model they can get from SaaS solutions is much preferable to the traditional in-house model, where they have to try and forecast variable hardware, support, security and upgrade costs into the equation.
Obviously that's not true for everything - it would be a brave organisation that went to a hosted model for its core financials, for example - but where the service provided is not absolutely central to the business, as with eProcurement, then best-of-breed Saas vendors can do it better and more efficiently, deliver best-practice process and advice, and do it all at a very transparent fixed rate. In this way, the all important management information central to the success of a purchasing programme can be managed in a way appropriate to the purchasing team whilst maintaining the ability to share core financial data through simple interfaces.
"Wax Digital can combine the savings made via eProcurement with the SaaS model to give customers a very compelling software case - especially during the credit crunch," concludes Daniel Ball.
Wax Digital clients include Dixons Stores Group, the NHS, Network Rail, KFC, Thorntons, Comet, Xerox, Center Parcs and CEVA Logistics.
